Homemade Air-Fryer Tortilla Chips (Printer View)

Quick, crispy tortilla chips made in an air fryer with simple seasonings and healthier cooking methods.

# Components:

→ Tortillas

01 - 6 small corn tortillas

→ Oil & Seasonings

02 - 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
03 - 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
04 - 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
05 - 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)

# Method:

01 - Preheat the air fryer to 350°F for 2 minutes.
02 - Stack the tortillas and cut each into 6 triangular wedges to form chip-sized pieces.
03 - Place the tortilla wedges in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt, smoked paprika, and ground cumin. Toss until evenly coated.
04 - Arrange the seasoned tortilla chips in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
05 - Air fry the chips for 6 to 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even crisping. Chips should be crisp and lightly golden.
06 - Transfer the chips to a wire rack or paper towel-lined surface to cool. They will continue to crisp as they cool down.
07 - Serve the tortilla chips with salsa, guacamole, or your preferred dip.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • You can season them however you want, from smoky and spicy to simple and salty, and they taste better than anything from a bag.
  • They cook so fast you can make a fresh batch while your guacamole is still being mashed.
  • No oil splatters, no deep fryer mess, and you use way less oil than traditional frying.
  • Leftover tortillas finally have a purpose instead of turning into sad, rubbery discs in your fridge.
02 -
  • Don't skip the shake halfway through, I learned this the hard way when my first batch came out with some chips burnt and others still soft.
  • Let them cool completely before storing, or they'll turn soggy in the container from trapped steam.
  • If you're using flour tortillas, start checking at five minutes because they cook faster and can go from golden to burnt in a blink.
03 -
  • Brush the tortillas lightly with oil instead of drizzling if you want even more control over how much you're using.
  • Make a double batch and keep half unseasoned so you can flavor them differently for picky eaters or last-minute cravings.
  • If your air fryer runs hot, drop the temperature to 325°F and add a minute or two to avoid burning.
